The Boys season 3 leaves viewers with many questions, so season 4 has quite a lot of narrative ground to cover and answers to provide. Each season of the hit Prime Video series excels at creating twists that leave the viewer guessing what will happen next, and for the most part, these narrative risks pay off. Given how popular The Boys has become and how many mysteries season 3 created during its run, The Boys season 4 has a lot of plot threads to tie up if it hopes to be satisfying.
The Boys immerses viewers in a dark and frightening world, a setting where life is precarious for regular people. The series repeatedly demonstrates just how dangerous and deadly Supes are and how their propensity for violence and destruction is only under the barest of control, even at the best of times. However, despite how prominent the Vought-created Supes are, both in the narrative and in the world within which the story takes place, there is always some new secret waiting to be revealed, some new question waiting to be asked.
7 What Happened To Hughie's Mother (Is She A Supe?)
Hughie is, in many ways, the emotional and moral heart of The Boys. His journey from wide-eyed innocent to revolutionary is fascinating to watch, and he is also the subject of a few mysteries in his own right. In particular, it remains unclear who his mother was and whether she might have been a Supe herself. If The Boys season 4 chooses to answer this specific question, it would add more complexity to Hughie’s character and create all sorts of narrative possibilities to be explored in future seasons.
6 Will Butcher Die In The Boys Season 4?
Billy Butcher is one of The Boys’ best characters, and he consistently proves that he is willing to do almost anything to bring down the Supes. This includes ingesting V24, an experimental (and ultimately lethal) variant of Compound V, which raises its own set of questions that season 4 will have to answer. Given how central he is to the story of The Boys as a whole, the new season will have to show whether Butcher dies as a result of taking the very volatile V24. While it would be a shame to see him exit the series, it would also make narrative sense for him to be brought down by his own hubris and sense of moral righteousness.
5 What Happened To Stan Edgar After The Boys Season 3?
The cynical and sinister Stan Edgar is another of The Boys’ key figures, and for The Boys seasons 1-3, he is essentially the central villain. He knows the ins and outs of Vought, which gives him the ability, or so he thinks, to control the Supes themselves and how the public views them. By the end of season 3, though, his power is challenged and subverted by the same Supes he manipulates, and he is ultimately ousted from his position at Vought. It remains unclear what exactly happens to him afterward, so season 4 will need to clarify his fate and whether he will be able to rise to power again and potentially become a new opposition to Vought.
4 Has The Boys Forgotten About Season 2's Cindy?
Hughie and the others discover an entire compound filled with Supes in season 2, one of whom is The Boys' mysterious and powerful Cindy. Though injured, she nevertheless manages to escape, and the last the viewer sees of her is her walking along the highway. However, The Boys doesn’t go into any further detail about what happens to her, and she doesn’t appear in season 3. However, since she shows just how tremendously powerful (and thus dangerous) she is, she might show up in season 4. Cindy might appear as another potential spoiler of Vought's monopoly, disrupting the increasingly fragile power relations.
3 Is Stormfront Really Dead?
The Boys season 3 includes a remarkable and grim death of an incredibly powerful, evil villain who is arguably even more dangerous than Homelander. Stormfront is a parody of heroism, and she experiences a suitably horrible death, seeming to commit suicide by biting off her tongue and choking on her blood. However, The Boys repeatedly shows that it is willing to bring characters back from supposed death, so she might be able to make a return. If so, her survival would have significant consequences for Homelander, in particular, since she is one of the few people with whom he seems to have a genuine emotional bond.
2 Where Is Soldier Boy Now?
The Boys season 3 has several stunning revelations, one of the most important of which is that Soldier Boy, long believed to be dead, is still alive and in the custody of the Russians. At the end of season 3, Maeve manages to keep him from wreaking total havoc, and he is shown to be once again imprisoned. Solider Boy will return in The Boys season 4, and it will need to address what has become of him after his capture by the federal government. He, like Stan and Cindy, could return as antagonists against Vought.
1 Is Ryan Turning Evil Thanks To Homelander?
Homelander does not have many strong relationships with other characters due to his psychopathic nature. One exception to this rule is his son, Ryan, whom he takes under his wing at the end of season 4. Already it’s clear that Ryan has more than a little of his father in him. He has shown a tendency for violence that is disturbing and could have significant consequences for both his arc and Homelander's. What’s more, if he does turn evil like his father, Ryan could be another Supe that the Boys and their allies will have to address in one way or another.
Time and again, The Boys shows significant skill in raising the stakes with each subsequent season. By puncturing the myth that so often surrounds superheroes, it forces the audience to think more critically about why they have invested so much in the notion of superheroes as being inherently good. Just as importantly, the series' well-written storylines keep viewers guessing what will happen next. Too much is never given away, teasing the viewer with questions to which it will eventually provide the answers. The Boys Season 4 will no doubt continue this trend.
