In the best way possible, many fans believe that Dwight is the most cartoonish character in The Office and that even dates back to the beginning of the series, before the whole cast became so over the top. From owning a beet farm to the weird traditions that run through his family, Dwight is one of the most absurd characters in sitcom history, but he isn’t loved by absolutely everybody.
Dwight is the subject of so many unpopular opinions, whether it’s regarding his love interests, his role as the branch manager, or his rivalry with Jim. The character left such an impression on fans over nine years, and he has inspired some extremely hot takes.
Dwight And Angela Were More Interesting Than Jim And Pam
Dwight and Angela make for one of the most mismatched couples that has ever been on TV. One is a cat-loving, high-maintenance woman, and the other is an untrustworthy, loudmouth, beet farmer.
However, they were hilarious together, and from getting caught up in a love triangle to their unique wedding, this Redditor thinks that they were more interesting than Jim and Pam. But given how Jim and Pam have had a long history dating back to the very first episode, there’s no comparing them.
The Farm Would Have Been Great
As The Office was coming to a close, Rainn Wilson himself pitched a spin-off of the show called The Farm, which would follow Dwight and his odd family on the beet farm.
A pilot was shot, and while NBC didn’t pick it up for a full season, much of the pilot can be found in the episode “The Farm.” And though it wasn’t the most loved episode of the show, one Redditor thought it would have been brilliant, claiming that any excuse for more Mose would be great.
Dwight Should Have Ended Up With Isabel
Dwight hasn’t had many relationships on the show, as he’s only ever had eyes for Angela. However, he once had a thing with Pam’s best friend, Isabel, and they actually hit it off really well. Some even think they would have been better together than him and Angela.
The couple had the same humor, and Isabel taught Dwight how to have fun. It would have been funny to see it last longer, as it would mean fans would have gotten to see Dwight on double dates with Jim and Pam, and that seems like a missed opportunity. But for the most part, Dwight and Angela were always meant to be.
Dwight Is Too Tedious
Right after criticizing the show as a whole, which is possibly the most unpopular opinion there has ever been, one argues that Dwight isn’t as loveable as most people think.
Though he’s fun, the thinks that Dwight is too tedious, and that might be understandable, as he is sometimes incapable of understanding humor. But for the most part, that’s exactly why the character works so well and why he’s such a hit with fans of the show.
Dwight Was Bullied In The Office
One of the funniest things about The Office is the war between Dwight and Jim, but not everyone thinks it’s simply a rivalry between two paper salesmen. One Redditor thinks that Jim bullied Dwight to no end, citing the fact that he forced Dwight to spend his hard-earned cash on needless repairs on the building, and making him believe he’s infertile.
However, though there are a lot of examples where Dwight is actually the good guy, there have been a few instances where Dwight has crossed the line, even if he might not be as on the ball as Jim is.
Dwight Was More Of A Bully Than Jim
On the complete opposite side of the spectrum, this believes that Dwight is much worse on Jim, and that Dwight’s pranks have much more serious consequences. In the past, Dwight has stolen Jim’s biggest client, and he even put in complaints about Jim when pretending to be his clients.
In reality, neither one is worse or better than the other, as they have both crossed the line on several occasions, going as far as to almost get each other killed. At points, they are so evil towards each other that it almost comes off like a Looney Tunes cartoon.
He Is A Horrible Person
In a long list of hot takes, one describes Dwight as being a truly horrible person. And while there’s an abundance of evidence to that, he wouldn’t be one of the most beloved characters if he was so horrible. As Pam told Dwight when visiting him on his farm, “pobody’s nerfect,” and that explains the whole cast of The Office more than anyone, as every employee are either socially aggressive, gossiping stirrers, or misogynistic alpha males.
It isn’t fair to single Dwight out as a horrible person when he’s in a show full of characters just as horrible as him, if not more so. And on top of that, he is revealed to have so many redeeming qualities by the season finale, and he even saved Jim, his archenemy.
Dwight Was At His Best In Season 8
Though the Redditor its that they haven’t seen the full season, Dwight and Jim got closer, wiping the slate clean for the most part, Dwight had much less of a presence in the season.
As Andy became the new branch manager and all the minor characters, like Kevin and Oscar, had much bigger roles, Dwight was pretty much sidelined in the season compared to previous years.
Dwight Should Have Become Manager When He Was Acting Manager
While Jim, Gabe, and Toby were looking for a replacement for Michael in season 7, Dwight’s biggest dream came true, as he became manager, or “acting” manager at least. He was quickly demoted, but this Redditor believes that Dwight should have become the proper branch manager at that time.
However, it’s extremely hard to believe that Dwight would have even been given a second chance in the first place. When he was acting manager, he literally shot a gun off in the office and temporarily damaged Andy's hearing. Not only should he not have been promoted again, but he should have been fired.
