Vampire Academy and adaptation We Were Liars. While fans are excited to dive into her new work, The Vampire Diaries remains a cherished favorite, and Kat Graham's fearless Bonnie was one of the main reasons why.

Bonnie was easily the most courageous of the entire Mystic Falls gang, but like any human being, she had her own unique set of fears that kept her up at night. Being a Bennett witch was no easy job, and she always had a target on her back. With her friends and family in danger, as well as her own life, some terrifying things made Bonnie incredibly scared.

10 Jeremy's Death

Breaking up with Jeremy was the best decision Bonnie ever made, but she still cared deeply for the younger Gilbert. She could not bear to see him harmed or dead, and when that fear came true, she gave her life to resurrect him.

This fear was not valid once Jeremy started wearing the Gilbert ring, and he was capable enough to protect himself. Moreover, how he treated Bonnie, she should have focused her care and attention on someone else.

9 The Ancestors

The Bennett line was a long and powerful line of witches in The Vampire Diaries, and Bonnie was connected to her Ancestors who could give as much as they could take. Initially, Bonnie had to tiptoe around the Ancestors so that she would not be punished.

Later, Bonnie became too strong herself to be afraid of the witches of yore. They had hurt her enough because of her choices, and when the time came, they backed her when she diverted Hellfire.

8 Her Friends Getting Hurt On Her Watch

The bad treatment meted out to Bonnie's character by TVD writers is one of the biggest pet peeves that fans have about the show. She had an intense savior complex, so Bonnie put her friends' well-being before her own, which was quite harmful to her.

Caroline and Elena were dear to her, and she was right to be worried about them, but Bonnie did not need to swoop in to save them at the cost of her own life. They were vampires (or protected by them) and could take care of themselves.

7 Becoming A Vampire

Witches and vampires never got along, so it was obvious that Bonnie would be terrified of being turned into one of their kind. She was proud of her heritage, so when Enzo indicated that he hoped she may become a vampire someday, Bonnie almost bolted.

Turning into a vampire would mean losing her entire identity as a witch and a Bennett, and Bonnie was too proud of that. It's also extremely frightening to switch between species.

6 Losing Her Powers

One of the biggest reasons Bonnie avoided getting turned was that she would lose all of her magic, which was immense. She carried potent magic within her and was one of the strongest witches of her time. She didn't know what life would be like without magic, so she was terrified of losing it.

Bonnie's fear came true more than once on the show, as she lost her magic in the Prison World as well as after taking Enzo's pills. It was a part of her identity, and being powerless left her vulnerable to villains with evil plans.

5 Losing Her Grams

Sheila Bennett was the closest family Bonnie had, and she was concerned about losing her to age, ill health and magic. Tragically, Bonnie's insistence that her grams help her with the tomb led to her demise.

The death of family is always a valid and real fear in anyone's mind, and Bonnie's came to life a little too early in life. When she lost Grams, she lost her innocence and a lot of love along with her.

4 Mystic Falls' Destruction

Mystic Falls was home for Bonnie, and she loved her hometown. It was important to her friends too, and their childhood were spent there. Bonnie worked tirelessly to make sure that Mystic Falls wouldn't be destroyed, sometimes by tomb vampires, or Klaus, or Katherine with her Hellfire.

The erasure of a town is a petrifying thought, and Bonnie's apprehensions made a lot of sense. Losing the town also meant losing her home and everyone who was the most important to her.

3 Kai

One of the most formidable nemeses of TVD warranted some fear, and even the usually fearless Bonnie understood how unhinged and dangerous he was. She was stuck with the psychopathic killer for months on end, and he stabbed and used her at that time.

Bonnie also didn't have much of her magic to use around then, so she was at the mercy of someone completely unpredictable. Kai was capable of the worst.

2 Being Stuck In The Prison World

More than Kai, it was loneliness that haunted Bonnie in the Prison World. With Damon, she survived and even thrived in isolation, but when she was left alone, Bonnie felt misunderstood and felt like she had no way out.

Humans depend on community and , which was something Bonnie lost for a long time. She yearned to celebrate Christmas with her friends and being all alone for eternity scared her.

1 The Sleeping Curse

Bonnie was right to be scared of Kai because he connected her life to Elena's, such that the other could not live while one survived. It was the cruelest thing to do, and Bonnie felt like she wasn't significant enough to be saved by Damon and her friends, which is a horrible feeling.

She thought that Elena would be favored over her, thus making her a scapegoat for the final time. The curse also meant that she would never be able to talk to her best friend again while she was alive.
