As Resident Evil Village inches closer to its release date, there are still a number of questions regarding the game's characters and plot. Capcom is promoting RE8 as a follow-up to Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, and a continuation of Ethan Winters' story. However, given the series' penchant for plot twists, could it be possible that Resident Evil Village's main character isn't Ethan Winters?

There are a number of reasons to be suspicious about Ethan Winter's fate and true role in Resident Evil Village. Despite being the protagonist of RE7, Biohazard reveals very little about Ethan in of backstory and personality. Even what Ethan really looks like is up for debate, since his face is never shown. This could potentially have a lot of plot repercussions in RE8, and it could even mean that Ethan Winters won't be Village's main character.

Adding a bit more credence to this theory is that Capcom's Morimasa Sato has teased a major story twist involving Ethan Winters for Resident Evil Village. There's a good chance that Ethan's story twist may be related to his actual role in the game. After all, it would be pretty shocking to have Ethan taken out of the narrative early on, after Capcom has so heavily hinted at Ethan as the main character.

Why Ethan Winters May Not Be The Main Character In RE8

There are a number of ways this plot twist could work in Resident Evil Village. So far, the game's plot hinges on Chris Redfield taking Ethan and Mia's baby, which presumably brings Ethan to the village in the first place. In a shocking twist of events, Ethan could die early on in the story, leaving Mia or Chris to take over as Resident Evil Village's main character. Even if he survives, he could be captured, leaving Mia to save Ethan the way he saved her in RE7.

This could actually prove to be a pretty interesting juxtaposition, since it would mirror RE7's events. Of course, it's also possible that Ethan's face is hidden for a reason. Perhaps the face reveal will explain how (and why) Ethan isn't Resident Evil Village's main character.

So far, of course, Capcom hasn't officially said anything about Ethan's role in RE8, other than that there's a story twist in store for players. Either way, surprising players and making it so that Ethan Winters isn't the main character of Resident Evil Village could set the stage for a dark and twisted story that will keep fans on their toes.
