Whether it's sooner or later (of course we'd prefer sooner), it seems that season 2 of the hit Netflix series well on it's way. The first season of the show was a wonderful starting off point, but if the season finale is anything to go by, it seems safe to say that all bets are off for season 2.

Everyone who enjoys watching a show of course hopes that it gets better and better over time, and it'll be interesting if TUA can build on it's initial awesomeness. We can only guess what season 2 will actually be about, but here are 5 reasons why we think season 1 will remain the best, and 5 reasons why season 2 will be better.

Will: Because They're Doing What They're Born For

Season 1 of the show was very much about everything that the Hargreeves kids were raised to be, but weren't. They were trained from birth to become the heroes who would help save the world, and the introductory season of the series is basically a catalog of their failures.

But now that they're all united in this mission, they're actually fulfilling the destiny that Reginald Hargreeves always told them awaited them. Seeing these characters with superpowers actually grow into a squad of superheroes is a pretty exciting prospect.

Won't: The Time Travel Problem

The protagonists of the series were already coping with a significant problem in season 1 because they were trying to stop the apocalypse while trying to evade the deadly Temps Commission and their attempts to stop them from saving the world.

However, now that the team has gone back in time they're kind of doubly under pressure. Undoubtedly the Temps Commission will be after them and will be aware of their aims, but they're also in the past, so they have to be extremely careful about what they change and what they don't.

Will: Because Of The Children

One enormous dangling plot thread that TUA threw at it's audience straight from the jump and never picked back up again throughout the season is the children that were a part of this bizarre event. We only know the Hargreeves family, and this "family" consists of a bunch of unrelated children who were collected by Reginald Hargreeves for his project.

However, there were 42 children total, and if the Hargreeves bunch is anything to go by, it seems obvious to assume that all of these other kids have some kind of superpowers as well. A jump back in time is the perfect way to explore these undiscovered resources.

Won't: The Vanya Problem

Who knows what exactly happened to Vanya in the season 1 finale. Her power obviously has a very strong effect on her, and it seems like the more she gives into it the more it almost seems to possess her.

And now that she's become a full blown star destroyer, what is going to happen once she arrives in the past? Is there any way of coming back from this for her, and how exactly do her siblings plan on controlling her? Essentially, have they really solved any problems by going in the past and taking white violin Vanya with them?

Will: Because Of Reginald Hargreeves

The Umbrella Academy - Reginald Hargreeves

Reginald Hargreeves is a pretty kooky rich guy in addition to being an absolutely abysmal parent, however since the Hargreeves siblings appear to have gone pretty far back in time in the season 1 finale of TUA, it seems safe to assume that we'll actually get to see the eldest Hargreeves in the flesh.

His whole project with the Umbrella Academy is bizarre, but it would appear that he somehow knew that the apocalypse was coming before it did, so understand the hows and whys of Sir Reginald is one of the most exciting prospects of the second season.

Won't: Because Of Reginald Hargreeves

The Umbrella Academy theory Five is Reginald

While getting some insight into the man who created the Umbrella Academy, not to mention the patriarch of the Hargreeves family, will be fascinating, it's hard to deny that Reggie is kind of the worst.

He literally purchased children for the sake of creating a squad of superheroes, and he did such a bang up job raising them that they as a unit wound up causing the apocalypse. It'll be interesting to see his adult/kid children interact with him, but our expectations for him are pretty low.

Will: Because The Powers Are Activated

It seems like the Hargreeves siblings have not yet fully realized the extent of their powers, but for the majority of season 1 it wasn't entirely clear what abilities some of the Hargreeves squad even had.

But thankfully by the end of the first season we at least had a good idea of what everyone could do, and more importantly the characters themselves realized what they could do and might possibly be capable of. It'll be awesome to see them stretch their wings even further in season 2.

Won't: Because Of The Villains

The Umbrella Academy - Leonard Peabody

Although typically the villains of a story only exist to be antagonists to the protagonists, we have to give credit where credit is due, because the villains of The Umbrella Academy were far above average.

There were quite a few adversaries that the Hargreeves family faced, and Leonard, Cha-Cha, Hazel, the Handler, and the Temps Commission all had complex character development and diverse character motivations. Clearly some of them will be an influence in season 2 as well, but it would have been more exciting if none of these characters were left behind in season one.

Will: Because It Was Just The Beginning

One of the most obvious things that makes the prospect of The Umbrella Academy's second season so exciting is that the entire first season of the series was essentially just the buildup to this.

The hope in season one was that the Hargreeves family was going to be able to stop the apocalypse, and the ultimate, tragic revelation was that they were the ones who were responsible for it. The apocalypse is the real story here, and the first season of the series was just everything that led up to it. It'll be great to see where things go now that it has actually happened.

Won't: Because We Like These Hargreeves

The season finale of The Umbrella Academy ended with a bang, but one of the most noticeable events of the finale (and really of the entire season) is that as the Hargreeves family was going back in time, they were de-aging just like Five had when he time traveled.

And while that is quite a twist to end off the season, it's ultimately one that we don't want to have to deal with for very long. The kid versions of the Hargreeves are cool, but we're already pretty interested in and attached to the adult versions.
