Vikings and ending of Vikings season 6 disappointed some fans who would have preferred a last dramatic vision of the characters together in Valhalla, though I disagree. I thought Vikings chose the perfect note to end on.

Ubbe and Floki could have changed America for Leif, in a Vikings: Valhalla sequel.

The peaceful ending scene which saw Ubbe in North America, reminiscing with Floki, one of the original Vikings characters to last the series, had me, as a spin-off skeptic, ready to say goodbye to Vikings, but after watching Vikings: Valhalla, which follows a new set of warriors, I need something I have never asked for - a sequel. Vikings: Valhalla centers on explorer Leif Erikson, and while both series often followed real events, Vikings altered one huge and surprising historical detail that changed the fates of Ubbe and Floki: Neither went to America as far as we know, but Leif did.

How Vikings Changed History By Making Ubbe And Floki Go To America

Leif Erikson Is Thought To Be The First Viking To Reach America

The real Ubbe is thought to have invaded England as seasons 4 and 5 of Vikings showed. Ubbe did not explore North America, making the events in season 6 in which he tries to form a trade alliance with the Mi'kmaq tribe completely made up. The real Floki, like his Vikings character, didn't like Iceland, although he eventually settled there. He didn't go to America either, but Vikings had Floki getting on well enough with the Mi'kmaq people to teach them Old Norse, more than a century before the first Viking was supposed to have found America.

Many Vikings: Valhalla just isn't quite as good as Vikings, but, I liked it, and now need to see more. The historical difference means that Ubbe and Floki could have changed America for Leif. I need to know what would happen if Leif ended up in a place that they had visited and found evidence - or descendants - of Ubbe there.

Vikings: Valhalla's Ending Makes Me Want A Sequel In America

A Vikings: Valhalla Sequel Could Continue The Story Of Leif And The Mi'kmaq People

As Leif discovered America, he could meet descendants of the Mi'kmaq people who encountered Ubbe and Floki, and children fathered by Ubbe could directly connect Vikings, and Vikings: Valhalla. This change from history could make a Vikings: Valhalla spin-off unpredictable, but in a good way, also continuing the legacy of fan favorite character Floki. I want to know what else Floki shared with the Mi'kmaq, besides his language, and I need to know if Naad's greed and Ubbe's mercy in executing him quickly would make the Mi'kmaq more or less wary of Leif's crew.

The producers chose the Mi'kmaq language as it is closest to the language the Vikings would likely have spoken.

A Vikings: Valhalla sequel set in America could give us more insight into the Mi'kmaq people, centering Indigenous characters and potentially righting something Vikings overlooked. Vikings might have been unlike any other TV show except, perhaps, Game of Thrones - which is what drew me to finally watch it in the first place, but it sometimes depicted colonizing Indigenous lands in a much more idealized, even romantic, way, so I'd love to see the Vikings saga get another chance to portray this aspect more accurately, from another perspective.

Could Another Vikings Show Happen?

Showrunner Jeb Stuart Had Plans To Continue The Vikings Story

floki Ubbe vikings season 6-2

The lack of a Vikings: Valhalla season 4 came as a surprise, as many of the storylines appeared to set up another season. Some might think that having a Vikings timeline already in place in America might create a storytelling problem for a Vikings:Valhalla sequel, but it could also tell Leif's story as it really happened, but with extra influence from Vikings and easter eggs to interest fans of the original series, and I need to see what the showrunners and writers could do with that extra element, as well as new Mi'kmaq characters.

Vikings: Valhalla has ended with its third season, and as much as I enjoyed it, it made me mad that a fourth season isn't happening.

Showrunner Jeb Stuart told Vikings: Valhalla season 3 ended with Leif and Freydis sailing away to explore new worlds, and while I think bad spin-offs rely on the reputation of the original series to excuse bad writing and one-dimensional characters, a Vikings: Valhalla sequel set in America would have every chance in the (New) World to shine.

Set over a thousand years ago in the early 11th century, Vikings: Valhalla chronicles the heroic adventures of some of the most famous Vikings ever chronicled. As tensions between the Vikings and the English royals reach a bloody breaking point and as the Vikings themselves clash over their conflicting Christian and pagan beliefs, these three Vikings begin an epic journey that will take them across oceans and through battlefields, from Kattegat to England and beyond, as they fight for survival and glory.
