Amidst the excitement for the recently announced The Witcher 4, fans are wondering where and how Geralt of Rivia will feature in the new title. While the grizzled monster hunter was mentioned in the new trailer from The Game Awards, it's clear that players will be put in the shoes of his adopted daughter, Ciri, for this outing. Still, with how beloved the character is, it is likely he will be present in the new game in at least some capacity.

Near certain, in fact, since it has already been revealed that Doug Cockle will be returning to provide his voice for the older witcher. It's an exciting development that means Geralt will definitely have lines in the fourth game, but it does not answer the question of how exactly Geralt will appear in The Witcher 4.

Then again, witchers are notoriously long-lived, and depending on the ending fans got for the third game featuring Geralt, he may have decided to reture from his monster-hunting duties. It's entirely possible that Geralt could still be around, retired with Yennifer or living with Triss in Kovir. He could even still be working as a witcher, traveling the road on his own while his daughter does the same.

How Geralt Can Return For The Witcher 4

What Possibilities Seem Most Likely?

Given the powers Ciri displays in the trailer, being able to drink witcher potions and cast signs, it's likely that several years have ed since the ending of the last game, during which she underwent witcher training and mutations. That would also put it far enough out that the political ramifications of the Witcher 3, namely the war with Nilfgaard, would be largely dealt with and out of the way story-wise. That being said, it's incredibly unlikely that the game will be set far enough into the future that Geralt has already ed away.

While he may show up in the new game in flashbacks for Ciri, given his role as her mentor, CD Projekt Red knows how much the fanbase loves Geralt of Rivia. The odds of him showing up for a mission or two, even if it's just a cameo role, are very high. The Witcher 4 would certainly be better off including at least a few minutes of screen time for this legendary hunter.
