Warning: spoilers for Demon Days: Mariko #1 ahead!

Marvel's Demon Days saga, he's returned in an entirely new way, along with a former mentor whose evil tendencies are consistent even in this universe. Ogun was once Logan's mentor and friend, but was eventually revealed to be a villainous man hellbent on controlling others and escaping death. Now, it seems he's been reimagined for the Japanese folklore-inspired story.

Peach Momoko is a rising star in the world of comics, having been recognized for her stunning cover art work, and now for her original series created as a part of Marvel's Stormbreakers. She's proven that her skill for the visual is matched by her aptitude for storytelling. That, mixed with her appreciation for Japanese folklore, has made it so the "Momoko-verse" has earned a reputation as a stunning ride for fans eager to see their favorite characters reimagined in her unique style. Now, the samurai villain Ogun is ing the fun.

In the mainstream Marvel Universe, Ogun and Wolverine's bond soured when the master warrior unlocked the key to cheating death. They went from friends to enemies in one vicious fight. Ogun became an evil, body-snatching killer who kept finding his way back to the world of the living through the part of his soul that was connected to the red demon mask he wore. Momoko has envisioned him in a new light, as the evil, female yōkai spirit, or Oni, named Ogin. She survives off the blood of other Oni and has a horde of henchmen at her beck and call. These henchmen include the likes of this universe's Black Widow, Nightcrawler, Mystique, and Sabretooth. Ogin's eyes are set on this world's Mariko, and she seems determined to get what she wants.

Mariko Ogun Wolverine Ogin Demon Days

The mainstream Ogun is just as determined. He is set on making Wolverine his next vessel, and has been pretty relentless in his attempts. Interestingly enough though, it's Wolverine's former love interest that is Ogin's desired prize in this universe. Luckily, a preview of the third installment, Demon Days: Cursed Web #1, seems like it will allow Mariko and Logan to meet and hopefully overcome the evil Oni's plans.

Ogin Oni Demon Days

Ogun is known for his red Oni mask, while Ogin in Demon Days: Mariko #1 is a literal Oni. Both of them feed off the life force of others, albeit in very different ways. They each manipulate those around them to get what they want, and they have both found ways to elongate their lives. And yet despite these similarities, the character Momoko has created is still incredibly unique, turning a relatively little-seen character into an epic villain as imposing as any other force of evil. Hopefully, Mariko and Wolverine can survive this imposing threat as Demon Days continues.
