One of the most acclaimed tag teams in wrestling history, The Hardy Boyz, made their triumphant return to thanks to the recent partnership agreement between WWE and TNA that allows stars from each company to appear on their respective programs.
In a recent post on their X , WrestleVotes indicated that the return of the Hardy Boyz to NXT was seen as "just the beginning" by WWE, with new merchandise from the tag team available on WWEShop, as well as the rumored potential of a main roster appearance in the very near future. With this being likely the final Hardy Boyz run in WWE, there are ten tag teams that should get an opportunity to face off with one of the best duos in WWE history.
10 The Wyatt Sicks
Wyatt and Hardy History Is Deep
A faction currently taking over the WWE Universe and its nightmares is the Wyatt Sicks, a vicious and terrifying group led by Uncle Howdy who have previously feuded with American Made and the Final Testament. Now reassigned to SmackDown, the quintet lay in wait for their next victims, and no better option for them could be the returning Hardy Boyz.
As Matt Hardy has a previous history with the late Bray Wyatt, this story buildup writes itself, tapping into their former tag team championship run, and their infamous "Ultimate Deletion" match, which saw Wyatt disappear into The Lake of Reincarnation. An easy and straightforward story could be told that sees Bo Dallas and Uncle Howdy avenge the deletion of Wyatt into the Lake, and builds to an incredible payoff with both Howdy and Erick Rowan competing against them. This story could also give fans the return of "Broken Matt", now in the creative-free environment of Triple H's WWE. Take my money.
9 The Bloodline 2.0
Jacob Fatu and Tama Tonga Unleashing Hell on The Hardy Boyz
The Bloodline 2.0 is not necessarily as mobilized a unit as it once may have been, but Jacob Fatu and Tama Tonga are a force to be reckoned with in the tag team division. Already having achieved tag team gold in WWE in a short amount of time, they've dominated the landscape of the SmackDown division, and another set of WWE Legends to feud with only helps grow their presence.
Jacob Fatu, in particular, is his own brand of high-flyer in the ring, and a potential showdown between Jeff's Twist of Fate and Jacob's Moonsault would be a sight for the ages. A proper feud between the Bloodline and the Hardy Boyz could be big business, especially for the fans of the death and gravity-defying move sets these competitors possess in their arsenal.
8 The New Day
Heel New Day Is Basically a Brand New Team
New music, new gear, and new attitudes amplify this once great babyface duo, and the New Day have officially made their turn to the dark side. Crushing fans and performers' hearts together by turning their backs on Big E, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods have become a shadow of who they once were, and are among the biggest heels in the Raw division.
While the WWE Universe waits with bated breath to see whether Big E returns for vengeance, the Hardy Boyz seem like the perfect team to avenge their friend by inheriting the beef on his behalf. Seeing a completely new New Day against the Hardy Boyz would add a great dynamic to an already compelling story, and would allow more time to play out on the New Day's Anakin Skywalker era, especially if they're competing for the TNA World Tag Team Championship.
7 Motor City Machine Guns
A Dream Match That's Never Occurred
Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley were longtime TNA stalwarts and were, prior to g with WWE in 2024, considered one of the best tag teams in wrestling never to have signed with WWE. Already achieving WWE gold since arriving, Motor City Machine Guns are quickly skyrocketing to the top of the SmackDown division, and continue to set their eyes on returning to championship status.
A Hardy Boyz-MCMG faceoff in a WWE ring for the TNA World Tag Team Championships seems like a sentence spoken during a fever dream in 2006, but it's one of the very few tag team dream matches that has yet to occur. This new WWE and TNA partnership can finally make this showdown a reality with big stakes and even bigger moves from two of wrestling's best tag teams.
6 A-Town Down Under
Another Step in the Austin Theory Face Turn?
It's been clear recently to the WWE Universe that a change is brewing with A-Town Down Under, and Austin Theory and Grayson Waller aren't exactly on the same page the way they once were. Both competing in a losing effort for the NXT Championship against Oba Femi, it's more apparent than ever that Splitsville is in their immediate future.
A brief feud against the Hardy Boyz would allow for a compelling angle to be portrayed between the four, especially if Waller undoubtedly takes the low road regarding some of Jeff and Matt's prior personal transgressions. By allowing Waller to take that extra step, it would help move Theory closer to the long-awaited, and long overdue, face turn that could help turn his character arc around within WWE.
5 #DIY
Champions vs. Champions
#DIY has been at the top of the WWE Tag Team Division on SmackDown and shows no signs of slowing down. With a heated feud with the Street Profits for the championships in the works, Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa have yet to face a challenge quite like the returning Hardy Boyz.
The opportunity for a rare "champion vs. champion" match on the main roster is an appealing one, allowing TNA to showcase their championships on both the USA Network and Netflix. #DIY and The Hardy Boyz seem like the perfect test pilot for this before taking them over to Netflix for a fan-service run on their flagship show.
4 The Judgment Day
Finn Balor and Jeff Hardy Would Print Money
Another faction leading the charge in WWE that could use a different creative push right now is The Judgment Day, featuring Finn Balor, Dominik Mysterio, and Carlito, currently occupying the Raw brand. With JD McDonagh out with injury, Balor and Mysterio could potentially team together to work towards a different set of tag team gold than they'd previously held by setting eyes on the TNA Tag Team Championships.
The idea of finally getting a proper Finn Balor and Jeff Hardy showdown is extraordinary, as both men's styles complement one another in a way that's rare to find in wrestling, and the opportunity to present this on WWE television could build toward a potential showdown between Balor's Demon King persona and Jeff Hardy, something Jeff has been vocal about wanting to do in his career. With another high-flyer in Mysterio and impressive in-ring work from Matt Hardy, this match could be the best of the proposed bunch just in of in-ring capability and move set, and could become a long-term story on TNA programming as well.
3 The Street Profits
Back With a Vengeance and Something to Prove
The Street Profits returned with fury and just anger to SmackDown recently, laying a stake to the WWE Tag Team Championships, distinctions that have eluded them for quite some time on the main roster. Much like the New Day, Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford suffer from the same lack of achievement that has pushed them into a dark place, and a team with nothing to lose is the most dangerous kind.
The Street Profits not only taking the TNA Tag Team Championships off the Hardy Boyz, but laying waste to the TNA tag team division, would be a very compelling story and allow Dawkins and Ford to begin their reign of terror by coming to take over their division by force. This would allow opportunities for TNA tag teams like Fir$t Cla$$ or The Rascalz to tell some incredibly cool and in-depth stories with Dawkins and Ford on the way to their matches together, and allow the torch ing to one of these other teams.
2 Penta and Rey Mysterio
Not an Actual Tag Team, But a Great Story
Penta is the newest WWE Superstar making major moves in the company since his debut this year, and fans are already fantasy booking his eventual match with the legendary Rey Mysterio, a much anticipated Lucha showdown. Mysterio is no stranger to the Hardy Boyz, and teaming for a limited run with Penta could lead to some incredible matches that would make the WCW Cruiserweight division beam with pride.
Mysterio and Penta don't need to team too long together, but this would allow all four participants to showcase themselves and their talents together, especially Penta who would benefit the most from in-ring interaction with Jeff Hardy in the beginning stages of his WWE run, as well as fun rn back to the Ruthless Aggression days of WWE. A quick trade-off of the TNA gold to Mysterio and Penta would be a fun twist in the story, and allow the duo to build the feud to a WWE live event before we get to the eventual Lucha showdown.
1 The War Raiders
The Most Ideal Scenario For WWE
The War Raiders are the current WWE World Tag Team Champions on the Raw brand, as Ivar and Erik returned after injuries to their NXT presentation. After a major win over The Judgment Day this past December for the championships, the Raiders are ready to show and prove that they're the most deserving team to lead the tag team division on Netflix.
A face-off against the Hardy Boyz would help add a layer of prestige to the War Raiders, showing competition and force with a legendary tag team, as well as showing off the deceptive agility both Ivar and Erik possess. WWE would also surely love to see the Hardy Boyz appear to a thunderous ovation during a live Netflix broadcast, another notch in an already large belt for reappearances and surprises for the company.
