With less than two weeks until WrestleMania 41, the stakes continue to build for the main event of Night 1, which features three of the biggest Superstars in WWE and in wrestling: Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns, and CM Punk. Each performer's history is interwoven with one another, dating back over a decade or more with betrayal, assistance, and fragile truces.
last night's Monday Night Raw that the story isn't quite over yet. Seth Rollins, blurring the lines between face and heel, made a clear heel move last night, and it could inject life back into his character, perhaps with someone new in his corner.
Seth Rollins Delivers a Chilling Heel Performance on Monday Night Raw
Is Rollins Setting the Table for a Heel Turn?
During Monday Night Raw's final segment last night, Seth Rollins interrupted Paul Heyman in the ring and asked him again to identify whose side he was on, whether it was Roman Reigns or CM Punk. Rollins then laid into Heyman, telling him that Reigns did not actually respect him because he left him for dead with Solo Sikoa and the New Bloodline. Rollins then mentions that not only did Reigns not save him, Punk didn't save him, either, only returning to serve his own self-interests.
Rollins placed Heyman firmly in the middle of this story, not because he's truly wanted by either, but because they want to continue using him, and said he could remove him from the situation "for his own good" insinuating that he would Stomp him. As Rollins began to assault Heyman in the ring, Punk rang to the ring and attacked Rollins, who stomped Punk and then set up a Stomp to Heyman, only to stop himself before landing the move, telling Heyman he now owes him a favor.
It's Time For a Change of Character for the Visionary
Heel Seth Is the Best Seth (Most Times)
For the better part of a decade, Seth Rollins has been recognized as one of the key players in WWE, but by his own ission, he's never been seen as the main player the way WWE made Cody Rhodes, Reigns, or Punk the stars of the show. Between those simmering sentiments, the anger expressed about Punk's return, the bitter rivalry with Reigns, and an existing 0-3 loss against Rhodes, Rollins seems ripe to let the anger flow and step back into the dark side.
As the current Visionary incarnation has seemingly run its course, Rollins could revert to a version of this character that allows him to continue the flashy, outlandish outfits but as a vicious, relentless heel. Rollins has more than enough reason to do so, and it could help reinvigorate his character as well as allow him to take aim at Rhodes, or John Cena, after dispatching his enemies.
Where WWE Could Go With a Heel Seth Rollins
Time To Revisit Cody Rhodes, or Perhaps Something New With John Cena
No stranger to being put into a program with a returning Superstar, Seth Rollins is the consistent utility player for WWE, but seemingly without reward, having lost on multiple occasions to Rhodes as well as never being able to get the upper hand on Punk. With the turn taking place, Rollins could take his frustration and anger to an entirely new level, perhaps even with the greatest swerve: a heel Paul Heyman in his corner, assisting him in reaching the top against Rhodes.
A Rollins/Heyman pairing is an interesting one, as Rollins isn't in need of an actual mouthpiece, but it's another layer to his deep story with Roman Reigns: another reminder that Rollins will always have the upper hand on him. By adding a betrayal to Punk in the story, Rollins now has multiple avenues and ghosts to chase, including a feud with whoever leaves Vegas with the WWE Undisputed Championship, and any movement for him will allow him to establish himself as the player in WWE.
